If I’m awarded the £10,000 bursary, I’ll use it to take my work to the next stage — moving from flat digital painting into immersive, physical installations. I want to create large-scale, mixed-media pieces that people can walk through and interact with. These would combine printed fabrics, sculptural forms, and projected digital visuals, allowing me to bring my surreal, object-focused world into real space.
A big part of this will be research and experimentation — testing new materials, figuring out how digital and physical elements can live together in the same work. I’d use the funding for studio space, materials, fabrication help, and time — which is one of the most valuable things any artist can be given. I’d also use part of the bursary to work with local creatives in Darlington, especially younger artists or students, to run workshops and open up conversations about identity, visual culture, and self-expression.
I want to build work that’s more than just something to look at — something people can experience and remember. This award would give me the space to slow down, dig deeper into what I want to say, and make work that’s bolder, more ambitious, and more connected to the world around it.
Finally, I might use it to expand the connection with the art scene in London, including creating new digital paintings and collaborating with some local commercial galleries. This sum of money might be used for this part of the expenditure. Including the production cost of digital paintings, media promotion expenses, etc.
I’m an artist who works with digital painting, drawing from pop culture, fashion, and identity. My work often features everyday objects like sneakers or perfume bottles, using them to explore bigger themes—consumerism, queerness, desire. It’s bold, colorful, and unfiltered, and I think it resonates with people because it reflects the chaos and beauty of modern life.
If I had the chance to bring my practice to Darlington through the Dover Prize, I’d love to share that energy with the local creative community. I believe art should be accessible and playful, but also thought-provoking. I’d be keen to host workshops, maybe even co-create something with local artists or students—turning their own lived experiences into visual stories.
My background straddles China and the UK, fashion and fine art, tradition and rebellion. I think that mix could add a fresh, unexpected perspective to the region and hopefully spark new conversations. At the end of the day, I just want to make work that connects with people—and Darlington feels like a place where that kind of connection can grow.
As an artist, I am committed to capturing the impact of pop culture, fashion, and media. Media and information distort people’s access to the truth and weaken their ability to explore objects. It’s easy to get caught up in popular culture. My art is rooted in my understanding of Fashionism, and reinvents the concept of the “fashion show.” I create striking, almost unreal representations of fashion imagery, capturing fleeting moments to expose the contradictions of the information age. Through my work, I aim to challenge the “show-oriented” nature of society and provoke thought about the relentless pursuit of materialism in the age of Generation Z. My opulent imagery invites contemplation of the dangers hidden behind the facade of economic prosperity and consumer culture. Through the lens of my Asian queer perspective, I paint self-created abstract objects that symbolize both intimate and collective experiences. These objects are not simply material things; they embody my emotional landscapes and spiritual connections with the world around me. The objects I create take on meaning beyond their physical form, becoming conduits for reflection on the societal forces and cultural pressures that shape our desires and identities. By combining abstract and pop art, I challenge traditional pop art conventions while revealing the societal pressures that define contemporary culture. Notable exhibitions include group shows at Al-Tiba9 Art Gallery in Barcelona, Spain; Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans, the United States of America; the Yan Museum in Guangdong, China; London Lighthouse Gallery in London, the United Kingdom; the Fang Yuan Art Gallery in Beijing, China; the Central Saint Martins Museum in London, the United Kingdom; and the Shanghai Exhibition Center in Shanghai, China.
