I would use the funding to develop my sculptural practice. With the funding I would love the opportunity to progress my ceramic, installation and light art practice. I’d make larger ceramic pieces, have the funds to rent kiln space to fire these larger works and to create them through the clay and glazes. I’d like to run some ceramic workshops to buy some mini pottery wheels and run these with the community to get more people into ceramics, I’d love to as part of the end installation make a display of 1000 mini pots some made by myself and some created by others through these workshops and display these alongside my own larger scale work. Moving my ceramics practice forward I’d like to explore new techniques and ways of decoration such as raku to build upon my current work, scale up pieces and develop pieces from my sketchbook into real life large scale works.
As part of moving my practice forward I would also use some of the bursary for research to possibly visit a light art festival to help develop that side of my practice further to gain inspiration and new ideas to build upon my light artwork to make another piece in the future, through this I’d hope to sketch new ideas and turn these into mini moquettes that could possibly be scaled up into complete artworks in the future.
Finally the funds would cover the production and display of work at the end of the bursary period, I’d love as part of this to possibly run some sort of workshop alongside the works display for visitors to take part in or have the ability to engage with the work in this way to make it more interactive.
I think my work might enhance and raise the profile of creative arts in the area by running some ceramic workshops as part of my final display idea, this would engage more people in the arts and possibly get more people into ceramics or to try ceramics for the first time. I’d also like to display my work in Darlington as having previously shown work in other parts of the North East I’d love to show my work in a new area to a new audience.
I am a freelance artist currently based in the North East of England. Since graduating in 2023 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Sculpture from UAL Camberwell I have been working freelance in light art and ceramics.
My practice consists of a wide range of mediums. In my work I focus on themes such as narratives, patterns, surfaces and recycling waste materials such as plastics or fabrics to create art. My work is predominately light art and ceramic installations but I work across a range of mediums and subjects.

2020 – 2023 I studied BA (Hons) Fine Art Sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts University of the Arts London.
During my time at university my practice focused on ceramics, mixed media installations and creating recycled artworks. These pieces were all inspired by abstracting the every day, narratives, surrealism and cartoons.

Blyth Celebrates Fund upcoming grant project to display my piece Travelling Tales. This will be to display 2 of the 4 large light art story books, running four days of workshops within the community to create 264 tiles of artwork to decorate the books. Which will then be displayed locally within the area. This project is due to start in August and has’nt been shared publically yet until other recipients are notified.
Durham County Council to create My travelling light art sculpture ‘Travelling tales’. The project combined real and imagined stories from across County Durham. The front cover was designed and created by myself with the remaining artwork tiles created through 14 days of workshops with 18 different community groups. The tiles were displayed across four large-scale light art storybooks. The piece toured Durham from November 2024 to March 2025. Travelling Tales was commissioned by Durham County Council as part of the community of light program funded by Arts Council England.
Lightlab scheme through Light up the North in 2023. Through this scheme I learn’t about light art, got to visit Blackpool Illuminations, Lightworks, Lumiere in Durham and got to listen to light artist talks. As part of this scheme I pitched a light art idea and received funding to develop this into a maquette with the help of a mentor. This developed maquette later became the concept for travelling tales which then later received funding to build the piece to full scale in 2024.
