The Dover Scholarship of £10,000 would be used to further my experiments in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) interactive art in London and to develop an innovative project in Darlington that combines technology and social dialogue.
My creative practice is at the forefront of the intersection of technology and art, focusing on real-time interactions between brainwave data and digital art. I am currently working on an experimental programme in London exploring how human consciousness affects image, sound and spatial environments through brain-computer interfaces.
The Dover Fellowship will be used in three main areas:
1. equipment procurement and technology development: the project will require high-precision EEG brainwave acquisition equipment (e.g. OpenBCI or g.Nautilus), as well as relevant computing platforms and software (e.g. Unity or TouchDesigner) for the creation of the work.
2. Experimental space hire and installation: Two experimental spaces in London and Darlington for installation creation, testing and audience interaction. Funding will support short-term space hire, technical installation and environmental set-up to enable an immersive experience of the work.
3. Community Engagement and Public Presentation: The Darlington project will be based on the theme of ‘Speculative Consciousness’ and will invite local residents to experience BCI art through public workshops.
Through this project, I hope to establish an extendable creative platform to promote the deep connection between the local and the global, between art and technology. I believe that in today’s era of rapid development of artificial intelligence, BCI is not only the boundary of technology, but also a new starting point for artistic imagination.
As an interactive artist active at the forefront of Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) and Artificial Intelligence technologies, I see Darlington not only as a place for creative exploration, but also as a key partner in shaping future-proof, community-rooted art.
Through open workshops and public exhibitions, I hope to inspire curiosity and creative confidence in audiences of all ages by transforming complex digital systems into accessible, poetic experiences.
The project will also make Darlington a bold and innovative region – one that embraces experimentation, technological literacy and interdisciplinary collaboration. , and I want to support the cultural vitality of the area while raising its profile nationally and internationally.
Ultimately, I believe that the most meaningful art begins with listening. By creating a space for local voices to shape this work, Darlington becomes not just a place, but a co-creator of interactive, inclusive art for the future.
